Accident leads Rawlins woman to make lifestyle changes
by Nicholas DeMarino, Rawlins Daily Times
 |
Sherril
Bailey and Winston |
Sherril Bailey, and her dog, Winston, made it through
a harrowing ordeal in Bailey’s Rawlins home in late July
and early August when Bailey fell in her home and was not discovered
for seven days.
On July 30, Bailey fell from the bottom stair of her Rawlins
home into the 4-foot by 4-foot entryway by the garage. She remained
there until Aug. 6 — seven days without food or water.
“I should have died,” she said, recounting the ordeal through
tears. “I don’t know how long I spent there trying
to get up, telling myself, ‘You stupid dope, why don’t
you have one of those cell phones.’”
Bailey is 62 and lives alone, save her Shitzu Maltese, Winston.
On the day of the fall, she’d returned from a doctor’s
appointment regarding her upcoming right hip replacement. The
hip pain forced her to favor her left leg, the leg on the side
of her
body partially paralyzed by a 1996 stroke.
Bailey fell sometime around 8 p.m. She was largely immobilized
and had no emergency medical alert button or cell phone.
